Family
Support is the major Programme area of the Organisation whose
philosophy is grounded in a set of widely accepted premises and
principles about what it takes to successfully raise children
by nurturing and protecting families. Hence the Organisation
synchronises and strengthens synergy in Intra-familial Programmes
through Public Education, Technical Assistance, Training, and
Advocacy being focused on the following thematic programme areas
of Rebuilding Communities Initiatives-(RCI), Families and
Schools Together -(FAST) Volunteer Development:
A. Information & Research Services
- Family Advocacy - which is intended to raise public awareness on the Rights of the Family, Democracy and Human Rights Learning, Family Days Observances such as: International Day of Families, Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Day of the African Child, World Cultural Day, etc.
- Family Research and Development - FFU lays much emphasis on Research which is intended to provide research based information to Practitioners who will utilize a range of research-based interventions, including crisis intervention, motivational interviewing, parent education, skill building, and cognitive/behavioural therapy and the codification of the existing Family laws that will lay ground towards a comprehensive Family Policy Development process.
B. Welfare
Poverty being one of the greatest challenges to family well-being,
FFU therefore strongly emphasizes the welfare of families through
eradication of poverty as a central development priority. Poverty
permeates all aspects of social life and undermines the ability
of Families to meet the needs of their members. A number of interventions
mechanisms have been adopted that include:
- Family Support Microcredit - This is a special pro-poor funding initiative, a Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (SACCO) scheme to support economically struggling families who have the idea and will to improve their lives and hence break the cycle of poverty among the poorest of the poor.

- Cultural Refinement - FFU emphasises the promotion of Cultural Competence which is vital for only then respect is possible where by each family's culture is valued and recognized on which Programs are community-based and are culturally and socially relevant to the families they serve.
- Volunteerism - FFU endeavours to promote innovative volunteer approaches through which Communities can learn to help one another and rebuilding the spirit of good neighbourliness without having first to wait for far distant neighbours' help.
- Legal Education and Support - FFU realises that ignorance of the law has lead families into trouble, and therefore supports innovative strategies of providing legal information to the layman to have knowledge and be aware of ones rights and obligations under the law and how to avoid pitfalls and legal complications in many common place situations.
